Terms of Service for Your AI Receptionist

These terms cover your trial, monthly subscription, call handling, and responsibilities when using Contractor Answering AI. Read the billing and service limits, try the browser demo, then request a free trial.

Operator and scope of these terms

TypeScience, trading as Contractor Answering AI, provides the website and AI receptionist service under these terms. References to we mean that operator, and references to you mean the customer business using the service. The governing law for these terms is California.

The service handles contractor and remodeler business calls using the information and instructions your business supplies. These terms cover subscriptions, use of the receptionist, and processing of caller information on your behalf. Questions about the service or your account go to [email protected].

Trial, card requirement, and conversion

The free trial lasts 14 days and is capped at 100 minutes. A card is required before call forwarding goes live. The trial converts to a paid subscription only with a card on file, and we send a reminder email two days before conversion.

The browser demo lets you test a fictional call before setting up the trial. Trial onboarding is where you provide the business information your own receptionist will use. Review that information and make the test call before forwarding your business number to the service.

Monthly subscription and extra minutes

The subscription costs $249 per month and includes 500 AI minutes. Additional minutes cost $0.20 per extra minute, with overage minutes billed monthly. Your subscription renews monthly until you cancel online.

The service is month to month, and your dashboard shows usage. Included minutes and extra minute billing are parts of the same subscription, so review usage when deciding how to forward your calls. You can choose all calls or only no-answer, busy, or after-hours calls.

Cancellation and backup call routing

You can cancel online in one click, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month. Monthly renewal continues until cancellation. If a plan lapses, calls go to your backup number or voicemail rather than being dropped by the lapsed plan.

Keep a backup way for callers and your crew to reach you. Backup routing does not replace your responsibility to review messages or keep your business contact information current. Your receptionist is one part of how your business handles calls, urgent requests, and callbacks.

Business setup and accurate instructions

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you give the AI, your greeting, and your business policies. Onboarding covers services, work you do not accept, service area, hours, price policy, urgent situations, and the person who receives urgent calls. You can change settings by telling the AI in plain words.

The receptionist does not state license numbers, bonding, or insurance details unless you provide them. It does not give binding estimates or prices on the phone unless you have set them. Your instructions should distinguish an estimate request from permission to quote a specific price or make a commitment about the work.

Call forwarding and available call handling

The receptionist answers day and night once calls are forwarded to it. We provide a local number, a forwarding guide for your carrier or phone system, and a test call before you go live. Your forwarding choice determines which business calls reach the receptionist.

The service asks intake questions, flags urgency, takes messages, and politely ends spam and robocalls. It can book appointments into Google Calendar or take the information for your callback. It speaks English and Spanish, and callers can switch language during the conversation.

Required disclosure and call records

The receptionist says at the beginning of each call that it is a virtual assistant and that the call is recorded. These notices cannot be switched off. Your responsibility for your greeting and policies includes using the service with these required notices in place.

Call records include audio, recordings, transcripts, summaries, and caller numbers. An alert for each call goes by email and app push notification with the summary, urgency tag, transcript, and recording; a daily digest also goes by email. Your dashboard provides access to calls, records, usage, and settings.

Urgent calls and emergency limits

Your urgent routing rules direct the receptionist to warm transfer or page your on-call person in the order you set. During a warm transfer, that person hears a short summary first and presses 1 to accept. Keep the intended recipient and order accurate for your business.

The service is not an emergency service or a replacement for 911. For gas smells, CO alarms, sparks or burning smells, or flooding near electricity, the safety script tells the caller to get everyone out and call 911 or the utility from outside. For a fire, it says: Get everyone out first, then call 911 from outside. For a medical emergency or anyone in danger, it tells the caller to hang up and call 911 right now. Then it alerts you. Review summaries and maintain your backup contact route because the AI can make mistakes.

Add-ons and permitted lead follow-up

Website chat is an add-on that uses the same business knowledge and rules on your own website. Lead follow-up calls are also an add-on, limited to people who fill in your web form and tick a consent box naming your business. You are responsible for the consent records for those follow-up calls.

Follow-up runs within about a minute, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the person's local time, with one attempt and one retry. Opt-outs are honored at once. Cold calling, list dialing, and purchased leads are outside the service. A web form submission without the required consent is not a permitted follow-up lead.

Acceptable use and suspension

Illegal use, cold calling, robocalling, impersonation, and harassment are prohibited. Healthcare use involving protected health information is not permitted. Your business must use the receptionist within the contractor call handling scope described here and provide instructions consistent with these restrictions.

We may suspend the service for abuse. Your ability to change business settings or choose call forwarding does not permit prohibited activity. Keep instructions focused on answering legitimate business calls, handling messages, arranging appointments, and following up only with people who supplied the required consent.

Data processing on your behalf

Your business decides what caller information is collected and why, and we process that information on your behalf to deliver the receptionist service. These data processing terms are part of the terms of service. Your intake questions and business instructions determine the information sought during the call.

Processing includes call audio, recordings, transcripts, summaries, and caller numbers. We also collect account details, onboarding answers, and content from the website you point us to. Billing is handled by a payment processor, and we do not store full card numbers.

Calls, website and demo chats, recordings, transcripts and summaries of trial and customer accounts may be reviewed by authorized staff for quality, support and abuse prevention. Access is limited to those purposes.

Service provider categories include hosting and storage, telephone carriers, AI model providers for voice and text, payment processing, email delivery, and analytics. By default, our API data is excluded from our AI model provider OpenAI's model training. We do not sell personal information or use caller data for our own marketing.

Retention, deletion, and privacy requests

Your business chooses whether recordings are kept for 30 or 90 days, after which they are deleted. Transcripts and summaries are kept while your account is open and deleted within 30 days after closure or on request. The recording period is separate from the retention period for written records.

Access, correction, deletion, and opt-out requests go to [email protected]. Callers may contact the customer business or us. The policy for account and caller information also explains website analytics, demo recordings, and privacy requests, while retention and access details describe the available call data controls.

Service limits and liability

The service is provided as is, and the AI can make mistakes. Your business is responsible for reviewing summaries and keeping a backup way to be reached. A message or urgency tag should be reviewed in the context of the caller's request and the instructions you supplied.

Our liability is capped at the fees you paid in the prior 12 months. This limit accompanies the service responsibilities described in these terms, including your responsibility for accurate business information, policies, and follow-up consent records. The receptionist does not take over your decisions about estimates, change orders, or performing work.

Changes to terms and support

We notify customers of changes to these terms by email. The date at the top of this page identifies the version you are reading. Keep your account email current so billing reminders and terms notices reach the address used for your subscription.

For account, setup, billing, or service questions, email [email protected]. For questions about personal information or a privacy request, use [email protected]. These contacts serve different needs, so explain whether you are asking about your subscription or information from a particular business call.
